Good to know

Location questions, answered

Is the beach really sargassum-free?

Yes. The villa is on the west-facing shore, where the seagrass does not land — the water stays clear and swimmable year-round while the east side of the island deals with seasonal sargassum. The one exception: an occasional strong storm can push some sea grass onto the west shore for a short spell.

Is the water swimmable and good for children?

Calm, clear and shallow — waist-deep for a long way out and usually 78–84°F. Parents supervise children in and around the water, pool and dock.

Do we need a golf cart?

We strongly recommend one; the island runs on them and the villa does not provide one. Guests rent their own, roughly $35–75 USD a day, license required. We recommend MTK (+501 608-6336); mention Black Orchid Oasis.

How do we get from San Pedro to the villa?

Everaldo meets you at the airstrip and guides you to the villa — about forty minutes by golf cart. Prefer not to drive? The Secret Beach water ferry crosses from San Pedro and we meet you at the drop-off.

How do meals and groceries work?

All meals, breakfast included, are arranged on the pre-arrival form before you arrive so the ingredients are stocked for your selected meals. We do not pre-stock groceries, but we are happy to recommend stores if you ask, and the kitchen is yours for self-catering.

Is the tap water safe to drink?

Yes. Every tap pours quadruple-filtered, UV-treated rainwater.

Can a boat pick us up at the villa?

Yes. The private dock is the pick-up point for excursions arranged through the villa with local captains, and for private boat charters from San Pedro.
