Secret Beach · Ambergris Caye · Belize
Secret Beach is the western, leeward shore of Ambergris Caye — the calm side, where the water is glass, the sargassum never lands, and the sun sets in front of the house.
Rated 5.0 on Google · Featured on Airbnb Luxe · Whole villa, sleeps 12

Ambergris Caye runs north to south with the barrier reef on its eastern side. Most of the island's hotels sit on that windward coast. The villa is on the other one.
The western shore is flat, shallow and protected: no surf, no sargassum landing on the sand, and water that stays around 78–84°F and waist-deep a long way out. It is also the side the sun sets on. The full explanation is in why the west shore stays clear, and the neighbourhood's own story is in the history of Secret Beach.
Allow a 1.5–2 hour layover for the island connection.
Tropic Air or Maya Island Air, or a 90-minute water ferry from Belize City.
Secret Beach is about forty minutes by golf cart, or ask us to book a private boat that brings you from San Pedro straight to our dock — the fastest way with children.
The island runs on them. roughly $35–75 USD a day, license required; we recommend MTK (+501 608-6336).

Flight advice, the ferry, and the arrival-day mistakes worth avoiding are in getting to Ambergris Caye.
Secret Beach. The beach clubs and restaurants are fifteen minutes on foot along the shore — or thirty minutes wading the shallows, which is how most guests end up doing it.
San Pedro. The town, the shops, the pharmacy and the clinics are about twenty minutes away by cart. It is also where the airstrip and the ferry dock are.
The reef. Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley are a boat ride away on the eastern side; boats collect you from our dock. See snorkelling Hol Chan and the Blue Hole.
The mainland. The Great Blue Hole by air, and the Maya sites at Altun Ha and Xunantunich, both work as day trips — the ruins in a day.

Belize has a dry season and a wet one, and the shoulder months are often the best value. Month by month — weather, reef conditions, hurricane risk and the lobster season — is laid out in when to visit Belize.
Belize is English-speaking, uses the US dollar alongside the Belize dollar at a fixed two-to-one, and is a short flight from most of the US — which is a large part of why families choose it. Compared with the alternatives: Belize, Roatan, Costa Rica and Mexico.
Every detail was thoughtfully curated … truly 5-star hospitality from start to finish. The water right outside the villa was crystal clear, calm, and actually swimmable.
No traffic, no sargassum, no stress — just beautiful beach and crystal clear sea as far as the eye can see. I really can’t say enough about the excellent food and location. Heavenly!
Each bed has an incredible view of the water … the location on Secret Beach left us breathless. Unbelievable service — I cannot recommend this stunning house enough.

Philip S. W. Goldson International (BZE) in Belize City, then the fifteen-minute domestic hop to San Pedro (SPR) on Tropic Air or Maya Island Air — the reef views are worth a window seat. Book a 1.5–2 hour layover. A 90-minute water ferry from the city is the scenic alternative.
Everaldo meets you at the San Pedro airstrip and guides you over. Secret Beach is about forty minutes by golf cart. Prefer not to drive? The Secret Beach water ferry crosses from San Pedro and we meet you at the drop-off — or ask us to book a private boat from San Pedro straight to our dock, which is the fastest way in with children.
Yes. The villa sits on the west-facing shore of Ambergris Caye, where the seagrass never lands, so the water stays clear and swimmable year round while the east side deals with seasonal sargassum. The one exception: a strong storm can push some sea grass onto the west shore for a short spell.
San Pedro is about twenty minutes away by golf cart — that is where the shops, the pharmacy and the clinics are, along with the airstrip and the ferry dock.
Yes. The Secret Beach bars and restaurants are fifteen minutes on foot along the shore, or about thirty minutes wading the shallows, which are usually 78–84°F.
We strongly recommend one. Guests rent their own, roughly $35–75 USD a day, valid driver's licence required; we recommend MTK (+501 608-6336), and there is secure parking inside the villa's gates.
No. Black Orchid Oasis is a private beachfront villa at Secret Beach on Ambergris Caye, rented whole, with its own chef and bartender on site. The Black Orchid Resort is an unrelated hotel near Burrell Boom on the mainland, about an hour from Belize City.
